The Customer Experience Model: the six elements that turn customers into fans
The Customer Experience Model by Klaas Kroezen explained. Two core attitudes and four skills to turn customers into fans, honest and relaxed.
- The Customer Experience Model captures in six elements what makes someone not just a customer, but a fan.
- Two core attitudes (honest and relaxed) and four trainable skills: beliefs, content, process and form.
- Score yourself or your team on the six elements and you see straight away where the biggest gains are.

Customer contact often feels hard to grasp. One month it flows, the next it stalls, and you cannot quite put your finger on why. Sound familiar? Then what you are missing is not motivation, but a measuring stick.
What is the Customer Experience Model?
That measuring stick is the Customer Experience Model. Over twenty-five years in sales and countless customer studies I went back to the core: what really makes someone not just a customer, but a fan? It turned out to come down to six elements. Score yourself or your team on them, and you see straight away where the biggest gains are.
The core attitudes honest and relaxed
The first two are core attitudes. They shape everything that follows.
Honest means you genuinely care about the customer. Not about the signature, but about the puzzle you solve together. Customers have a sixth sense, they feel your intention at once. Make helping your goal, and you naturally ask the right questions.
Relaxed means you let go of the pressure to perform. That sounds soft, but it is the opposite of weak. When you are relaxed, your customer relaxes too. The walls come down, and there is room for a real conversation.
The four skills in the model
The other four are skills you can train.
Beliefs are your inner compass. If deep down you think selling is something grubby, you radiate it. Turn that belief around: sales is not something you do to the customer, it is something you do for the customer.
Content is about becoming the trusted advisor. Not the product pusher reeling off a brochure, but the knowledge partner who understands the real problem and makes it clear.
Process is your customer's journey, from first contact to well beyond the purchase. Not a straitjacket, but a guide that makes sure nobody drops off along the way.
Form is the first impression and the way you deliver your message. Your story, your presence, your calm. Memorable instead of forgettable.
How you turn customers into fans
Together these six decide whether someone stays a customer, or becomes a fan. And a fan is gold: they stay longer, invest more and bring in new customers of their own accord. That is how that first euro becomes three.
